Advances in technology have improved our ability to create digital maps more easily over time. This session provides an introduction to the principles of GIS and the programs of Tableau and Story Maps, so that researchers new to the use of mapping technology can better appreciate what goes into the making of an effective map and how maps can be used as powerful storytelling tools.

This is an introductory series that will introduce faculty and graduate students to the theories and practices of digital scholarship, promote a community of digital scholars and explore the relationship between digital scholarship, digital pedagogy, and scholarly communication.
